TEGNA has named Carol Fowler director of content for its NBC affiliate, WXIA (11 Alive) Atlanta. Fowler’s role will take effect on Dec. 11; she will be reporting to WXIA’s recently appointed President and General Manager, Kristie Gonzales.
Fowler spent the last five years with KSDK in St. Louis. As content strategist for the station, Fowler led a group of more than 90 journalists to receive several accolades, including seven RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2022 and a 2022 Gracie Award.
Fowler’s career began as an on-camera political reporter and Illinois capitol bureau chief for WCIA-TV, Champaign, Illinois. In the more than 30 years since Fowler first appeared on the air she has served a variety of roles in many newsrooms, becoming a proven leader.
“It’s an honor to join 11Alive in this leadership role,” shared Fowler. “Our goal is to create and support a newsroom environment that brings out the very best in every journalist, all with a clear understanding of our purpose as a news organization. Reporting stories that are top of mind and highly relevant to the lives of our diverse Atlanta audience will be at the core.”
