Ray Carter, VP and General Manager of Cox Media Group’s (CMG) WSB-TV, announces plans to retire March 31, 2024.
Carter is a proven leader and team player in the world of broadcasting, with more than 40 years in the business. Carter has served in a variety of roles during his career, including reporter, anchor, producer and news director. For the past 20+ years, he has served in various leadership positions with the CMG family.
In 2023, Carter served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB), after unexpectedly being appointed to the position.
“Ray has left his mark on every position he has held in his forty – year broadcast career. This was certainly the case with the GAB,” says President of the GAB, Bob Houghton. “Ray was a last – minute Chairman after a very unexpected opening in 2023. Even with twelve years in the job and nearly fifty years in broadcasting, Ray was a great mentor to me and our GAB staff.”
In his role as Chairman, Carter played an integral role in the organization and planning of GAB events in the past year. He took especial care in the GAB internship program, inviting the interns to spend three days at WSB to observe various aspects of the broadcasting industry at one of the top stations in the country.
“Ray is proud of his station and his team and wanted our interns to witness all aspects of his TV station,” says Houghton.
As Carter closes the chapter on broadcasting, he, and his wife Kathy, plan to spend the next three years serving as mission leaders for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
For the past 40 years in broadcasting, Carter has brought an undeniable energy and passion to the industry that is sure to be sorely missed.
“On behalf of the GAB Team and our board we say Thank You Ray. You have indeed made every day a great day to be a broadcaster in Georgia,” says Houghton.
