Welcome 2026 GAB Summer Interns

The GAB has officially welcomed our 2026 interns. We are so excited to have Ayana Peterson and Nyah Leveretter join us in the office this summer and for GABCON 2026.

This summer, Ayana and Nyah will be contributing to the planning and execution of GABCON, helping extend the reach of the GAB through social and digital marketing, implementing new initiatives within the education foundation and more.

Meet Ayana Peterson

Hi, my name is Ayana Peterson, and I am currently a senior at Kennesaw State University pursuing degrees in Criminal Justice and Mass Media with a concentration in Journalism. I am highly motivated and passionate about mentorship, community empowerment, media, education and service. My goal is to use storytelling and leadership to create meaningful change within my community while helping others feel seen, supported and inspired as well as keeping them informed. I have a strong desire to learn new things, and my ambition and passion continue to push me through obstacles and even the more mundane moments of life. I love community engagement and discovering new aspects of the ever-evolving world of media and journalism.

My passion for journalism and community engagement has grown through my involvement in campus leadership, media initiatives and mentorship opportunities. Throughout my college experience, I have focused on amplifying student voices, encouraging civic engagement and creating conversations surrounding mental health, student success and community support. My platform centers on empowering mentorship and education within underserved communities while creating safe and impactful spaces for students to grow personally and professionally.

During my time at Kennesaw State University, I have gained experience in sports media production, podcasting, student engagement and community outreach. I have worked on projects focused on college life, mental health awareness and student resources, including collaborative podcast initiatives designed to help students navigate challenges both academically and personally. In addition to my media work, I am also building a business called “Free,” which aims to help individuals achieve financial freedom and create the lifestyle they desire.

In the future, I hope to continue growing within the fields of journalism, media and public service while using my platform to uplift others through storytelling, advocacy and mentorship. Following graduation, I plan to pursue opportunities that allow me to combine my passions for media, community impact and leadership while continuing to serve and empower the communities around me.

Meet Nyah Leveretter

Nyah Leveretter is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned her master’s degree in journalism after completing her undergraduate studies in journalism at the University of Kentucky. Her hometown is Blythewood, South Carolina. Her upbringing as a military child has allowed her to spend time in Kentucky, Virginia, Japan, Georgia and South Carolina, shaping her adaptability, global perspective and passion for connecting with people from all walks of life. A former basketball player at both institutions, she has combined her athletic background with her love for storytelling to pursue a career in sports media and communications. Her ultimate goal is to become a respected sports broadcaster while continuing to grow her knowledge across all areas of media, including production, engineering, sales and management.

Currently, Nyah serves as a color analyst for women’s basketball and volleyball broadcasts for the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University and Presbyterian College. She is passionate about serving as a bridge between communities and information, believing there is power in keeping people informed, educated and represented through media. Her professional experience includes internships with University of Kentucky Football Communications, Nike Inc. and 5Wins Sports Media, where she has written stories, created multimedia content and contributed to marketing campaigns and activations. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Association for Women in Sports Media.

Beyond broadcasting and journalism, Nyah has built a strong foundation in leadership and advocacy through athletics. During her playing career, she served as a women’s basketball representative on the SEC Leadership Council; was selected as one of three representatives at SEC Spring Meetings; and held the role of Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Kentucky. These experiences strengthened her passion for advocacy, representation and creating meaningful connections within sports and media spaces.

Outside of her career pursuits, Nyah enjoys modeling, acting, cooking meals for friends and family, playing Fortnite and spending time with her four-year-old Cavapoo. She is extremely extroverted and loves getting to know the stories of people she comes across.
