Job Description and Responsibilities

WXIA-WATL in Atlanta is seeking an experienced, dynamic, enterprising weekend anchor/MSJ to join our team in this top-ten market. We are seeking a skilled journalist who commands an anchor desk during breaking news and can deftly steer an audience through a variety of content in our daily newscasts. In addition to anchoring weekends, you will also be asked to fill in on various shows and be a part of our aggressive continuous coverage surrounding big events.

This journalist will also report three days a week. For that reason, we are seeking a candidate who is deeply invested in the local community and is a natural competitor who wants to break lead stories in Atlanta. They must be an excellent storyteller and committed to developing sources and understanding Atlanta’s busy news cycle.

Responsibilities

    • Anchor weekend evening newscasts and take on leadership role in newscast production. Fill in as an anchor where needed across all platforms,
    • Report in field as a multi-skilled journalist and develop compelling enterprise content that can lead a newscast.
    • Develop news sources tied to beat.
  • Write and post daily on digital platforms.
  • Participate in promotional appearances and represent WXIA at community events.

Requirements:
Requirements

    • Journalism or Mass Communication degree preferred with five years of experience as an anchor/reporter in a medium to large market.
  • Possess a clear understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
    • Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad lib.
    • Excellent writing, packaging, and live skills.
    • Must be able to report in a broad range of styles with good on-air presentation skills.
    • Must have skills to shoot, write, and edit content for air as multiskilled journalist.
    • Strong social media presence.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
