We are seeking a Director of Community Empowerment to lead station efforts to build and maintain current key relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, political leaders, and the business community in order to cultivate increased awareness and presence of the station and the population that we serve. This individual will collaborate internally with station and corporate leadership to understand business objectives in order to guide the development and execution of key community empowerment campaigns.

 

Represent the station to community groups, local schools, non-profit agencies, etc.  Work weekends and evenings, as needed, to attend company-sponsored events, and/or business networking socials.  Present as MC at events, when requested.  Maintains calendar of events.  Keeps the station updated on these events and the need for participants etc. The position is based in Atlanta, GA, but with responsibility in Raleigh, NC.

 

Job Responsibilities

Establish partnership relationships with key members of sales team to collaborate on strategies that impact business development initiatives.
Identify events that provide branding opportunity for the station and interaction with key demographics for local market. (Events, parades, festivals, health fairs, community forums, etc.
Work with digital media team on all forms of communication including social media content and strategy to promote campaign goals.
Working closely with internal department teams to increase collaborative opportunities for the empowerment initiatives and the Company.
Manage all requests from Compliance team related to local media group.
Evaluate current station campaigns and develop new campaigns as needed.
Produce public service announcements (PSAs) and vignettes that are part of the station campaign efforts. Monitor airtime for PSAs. Coordinates placements of PSAs with Traffic Hub.
Cultivate non-traditional sources of revenue.
Schedule and coordinate Phone Banks.
Maintains database of community organizations and community leaders and set up meetings to introduce the VP/GM.
Assists/ coordinates with station tours by schools etc. to the station.
Maintains the station’s Public File; prepares and submits reports required by the FCC (quarterly), Risk Management, and NAB Cable Royalty etc.
Drafts and/or reviews local press releases, scripts for speeches, local media requests and distribute as needed.
Assists/ works with the Creative Services department to promote events.
Answer inquiries from the public and provides information concerning local organizations.
Other duties as deemed necessary.
 

 

 

 

Required Skills & Experience

Above average computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
Above average social media presence across all platforms
Successful project management skills with history of driving projects to completion in a high-pressure and deadline driven environment.
Creative and strong communication and inter-personal skills and a positive attitude.
Bilingual Spanish/English. High Fluency in Spanish (oral and written). A solid writing skill in Spanish is a must.
Ability to write and develop compelling press releases.
Applicants must have a valid Illinois Driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a clean driving record
Ability to drive (travel throughout our area of coverage), stand, walk and sit for up to 8 hours and able to carry up to 40 lbs.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; able to present/interact with Senior Management and external community group leaders
Able to maintain a flexible work schedule, including weekends, as needed
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related fields, and at least 6 years of experience in public relations, community affairs, marketing and/or promotions.
Experience developing written materials (press releases, fact sheets, overall messaging, etc.) and verbal communication in both English and Spanish language
Strong experience interacting with Hispanic community groups and leaders and knowledge of Hispanic dynamics across the country
Desired Skills & Experience

Ability to work independently and in a team environment while managing multiple assignments.
Understands region and Hispanic market dynamics, issues and trends.
Eligibility Requirements

Must be willing to work from office in Atlanta, GA.
Employment/education will be verified

Ability to stand, walk, bend, type, edit, reach and sit for up to (8) hours
