Job Summary/Description:
WTOC is searching for an experienced investigative journalist to join our award-winning team as both an investigative reporter and as an evening anchor. The right candidate must excel at both investigative journalism and as a leader on the anchor desk.
Duties/Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
– Work with our investigative team to research, develop, and pitch important stories in our community that take our viewers beyond surface-level reporting.
– Must be able to work sources and develop strong relationships in the community to stay on top of big topics and issues of importance.
– Must be able to provide additional insight to day-to-day stories in the newsroom, including providing context to complicated stories.
– Must be able to assist with breaking news coverage as either a reporter or anchor in the newsroom or in the field.
– May be asked to field anchor on large station projects or turn content other than investigative if deemed important by newsroom management.
– Work closely and effectively with newsroom management on investigative stories and other assignments.
– Work with producer(s) on shows that they are anchoring to ensure the newscasts are as good as possible.
– Fill-in as an anchor on other newscasts when asked.
– Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
– At least 5 years of experience working in a TV Newsroom, preferably with both prior investigative journalism experience and anchoring experience.
– Proven investigative skills, including developing strong sources, understanding public records and FOIA laws, and a strong understanding of sorting and analyzing data.
– Prior experience as an anchor required.
– Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred.
