Meet Michayla Maxwell

Michayla Maxwell is currently a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia, pursuing her
M.A. in journalism and mass communication. She earned her B.A. in multimedia journalism
from Howard University in May of 2024. Michayla is highly motivated with passions for the
youth, sports, journalism, education, and service.
Her love for journalism first started in eighth grade when she had the opportunity to do the
morning school news for the entire school year. In high school, several teachers encouraged
Michayla to consider a career in media and declare journalism as her major in college. By
sophomore year, Michayla knew journalism was her new passion and upon graduation she
decided to pursue this passion in Washington D.C. at Howard University.
During her undergraduate matriculation she had several on campus and professional
opportunities to grow as a storyteller. Her background includes working in a wide range of media
positions including on-air and editorial reporting; digital and social media management;
programming; and production. She has worked with companies like Next Level Sports &
Entertainment, the Baltimore Ravens, SiriusXM, and more. Michayla is excited to work with the
Georgia Association of Broadcasters this summer in hopes to contribute to their digital and event planning efforts. In the future she hopes to land a reporter role within the Atlanta market.
Michayla grew up in Duluth, Georgia and hopes to serve the same community she grew up in
following graduation.
