The NAB Leadership Foundation’s annual Service to America Awards are now accepting entries through March 11, 2024.
According to the foundation’s website, “The Celebration of Service to America Awards honors excellence in community service, philanthropy and impact by local radio and television stations across the country.”
Cox Media Group (CMG) and DirecTV failed to come to a retransmission consent agreement, leading DirecTV to remove all CMG stations from DirecTV’s lineup. The former agreement expired Feb. 2, 2024.
The expiration occurs at a sensitive time with the impending 2024 Superbowl taking place in less than one week.
According to a report by TVTech, Cox claims that DirecTV has refused to extend negotiations.
Atlanta’s CMG station, WSB-TV, encourages viewers to call 1-800-531-500 today and demand the programming distributor bring back WSB-TV.
WSB-TV Channel 2’s Chief Meteorologist, Brad Nitz’s coat drive collected more than 1,000 winter coats for those in need this winter season.
WSB credits the success of the drive to the viewers for their generosity.
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Small and Medium Market Forum in Las Vegas is now open for registration.
The 2024 event is taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Saturday, April 13. Essential industry news and updates will be covered during the event, in addition to the opportunity to network with peers and colleagues from across the country.
The 2024 Radio Hall of Fame nomination window is now open through March 31, 2024.
According to Radio Ink, “Founded in 1988 by the Emerson Radio Corporation, the Radio Hall of Fame has been a product of the Museum of Broadcast Communications since 1991.”
Last year’s inductees were Deborah Parenti, John DeBella, Gerry House, Bob Rivers, Pat St. John, Shadoe Stevens, Nina Totenberg and Charles Warfield.
The NAB has partner with Future Media Concepts (FMC) to offer online training certificates in A.I. technology. Along with the online certifications, in-person training will be available at the 2024 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
Courses cover topics such as A.I. design, video editing, legal, and broadcast tv and radio.

Univision 34 Atlanta is accepting applications for its scholarship program “Liga de Campeones” (League of Champions) through March 31, 2024.
The scholarship was founded in 2004, making this year the 20th anniversary of the scholarship benefiting young Hispanics in Georgia. Ten winners will be chosen to win a total of $2,000 and be interviewed on one of Univision 34 Atlanta’s local programs.
Friends of Georgia Radio have officially announced the creation of a new mentorship program available to college students, “Audio U Mentorship Program.” According to the Friends of Georgia Radio website, “…the Audio U Mentorship Program strives to foster the next generation of talented professionals in radio, communications, and broadcasting in the state of Georgia.”
The program pairs students registered at accredited Georgia colleges and universities with broadcasters from both member and nonmember stations.
WSAV’s Kim Gusby visited local elementary school, Gasden Elementary, in Chatham County for “Read United Day.”
