The Georgia Association of Broadcasters continues its pursuit of celebrating broadcasters statewide on their fifth 90th Anniversary Roadshow stop at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia!
This exciting event was hosted by Bill Maine of WDUN and Joel Williams of WCON. Maine holds the position of executive vice president and general manager of WDUN and also hosts the “WDUN Morning Show with Bill Maine” on weekday mornings. Maine also obtains a special relationship with the GAB, as he serves on the board as chairman of the association. Williams is also a morning show host, with WCON and is a proud 2020 Gabby Award recipient.
The event featured the presentation of “Spirit Awards” to various deserving recipients and entities who have done influential work in the city of Gainesville, and its surrounding counties. The award was presented to Michael Wofford of WGTJ!
The GAB was proud to have a vital community leaders and guests in the audience including, Sam Couvillon, mayor of Gainesville, Matt Santini, Mayor of Cartersville, Randy Quick, Broadcaster and City Commissioner from Rome, Chairman Lee Hawkins, Representative from District 27, Senator Shelly Echols from District 49, and Senator Bo Hatchett from District 50. Their presence added great value to the event, and highlighted the importance of the relationship between our civic leaders and the broadcasting community.
At each roadshow, the GAB shows its support for the community by presenting a $2,500 scholarship or donation to a deserving community charity or organization. In this market, the GAB presented the donation to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. Since its inception in 2008, the GMFB has donated more than 81 million pounds of food to those in the local community. The GAB hopes for its donation to help further the pursuits of the Food Bank, and help many more in need.
The GAB considers it a sincere privilege and honor, to recognize such influential individuals in broadcasting within the Gainesville community. We eagerly anticipate the continuation of our Roadshow Tour in Albany, Georgia on July 10, 2024.
