ATLANTA, Ga–
The Georgia Association of Broadcasters has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person events surrounding the 2020 convention, GABCON, and the GABBY Awards. A virtual GABBY Awards ceremony will take the place of an in-person event on October 24th at 7:00 p.m. EST.
The GAB board of directors, staff, and partners engaged in deep discussion on how best to approach this situation. Both the convention and awards ceremony are signature events for the GAB and its members.
However, with a combination of immovable deadlines, logistical concerns, and the growing uncertainty surrounding public health, the association feels an in-person event of any kind is just not in the best interest of our members, partners, or the GAB as a whole.
The GAB is instead focusing our efforts on producing a virtual GABBY Awards ceremony that will be live-streamed on our original event date, October 24th. Details of this virtual event will be announced soon, but I assure you that we plan to hold the production of this event to the highest possible standards as befitting our industry.
GAB President Bob Houghton says, “For nearly 60 years, the GABBY Awards have celebrated the outstanding work of Georgia broadcasters. We are so pleased that we will be able to continue this tradition in 2020, virtually. And we look forward to being together again in October 2021.”
Additionally, The GAB has officially announced that GABCON will return in 2021 in what is expected to be GAB’s largest convention to date. GABCON will take place on October 22nd-23rd, 2021 at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead. For more information, please click here.
