Georgia Association of Broadcasters President, Bob Houghton went on air with 104.1 The Wave WRJY-FM’s Joe Willie Sousa on July 17, 2023. Houghton spoke about the continued fight broadcasters face for AM Radio.
The GAB is one of several organizations advocating for the Local Radio Freedom Act. The (LRFA) is a bi-partisan bill introduced to protect radio stations from paying additional taxes and fees to air music. Sen. Con. Res. 5, was introduced to the 118th Congress by Sen. Margaret Wood Hassan (D-NH) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) in March 2023. The bill expresses support for the LRFA, standing against proposals by the music industry to impose additional taxes on radio stations for playing music.
The bill has been receiving a lot of support so far. But the fight is not over yet. Click the link below to listen to the full interview with Bob Houghton and Joe Willie Sousa.
“Elon Musk wants to put a man on Mars, he can figure out a way to get static electricity out of a car.”
“We’ve won the battle but we haven’t won the war that’s for sure. But I think the automobile business totally understands that the broadcasters are going to put up a fight. I’ve never seen broadcast in general and radio specifically unite the way they have around this cause.”
