ATLANTA, GA —The FCC recently announced an opportunity for AM stations to apply for new FM translators.
The filing window will be open from Jan. 25 through Jan. 31, 2018. This opportunity will be open to any AM station that did not participate in either of the 2016 FM translator modification windows or the summer 2017 auction filing window.
In order to apply for a new FM translator, applicants must file an FCC 349 Tech Box application for each proposed FM translator facility and a short-form FCC 175 auction application by the January 31 deadline.
Lastly, in connection with the second filing window, the Media Bureau also announced a filing freeze. The bureau will not accept LPFM modification applications, FM translator minor change applications or FM booster applications from Jan. 18-31.
