Broadcasting Excellence Celebrated at Georgia Association of Broadcasters’ 90th Anniversary Event In Columbus
Columbus, GA – June 11, 2024 – The Georgia Association of Broadcasters continued its statewide 90th Anniversary Celebration on its fourth roadshow stop in Columbus, Georgia!
The event was hosted by Barbara Gauthier of WTVM-TV and Michael Soul of Davis Broadcasting. Gauthier, an Emmy Award-winning journalist with over 25 years of experience, has been a pivotal figure in Columbus since 2008, anchoring WTVM News Leader 9’s evening newscasts. Michael Soul, a seasoned broadcasting veteran with over 30 years in the field, currently hosts “The Michael Soul Show” on WKZJ K92.7. The GAB is deeply honored to have two individuals, who have passionately dedicated their careers to this industry, host the program.
During the show, the GAB presented six “Spirit Award” certificates to influential individuals and entities within the Columbus community. The recipients included Georgia Senator from the 15th District Ed Harbison, faculty from Columbus State University, as well as members of the Columbus State University Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff Department, and Muscogee Emergency Management Agency.
The event featured several notable guests in attendance with important civic ties to the community. This group included Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson and Phenix City (Alabama) Mayor Eddie Lowe. Their presence on Tuesday underscored the significance of the celebration and highlighted the extensive support for the GAB’s milestone anniversary.
At each roadshow, the GAB shows its support for the community by presenting a $2,500 scholarship or donation to a deserving community charity or organization. In Columbus, the market opted to open a scholarship for future broadcasters to further their education in the field and carry the legacy of local broadcasting into the next 90 years of the market’s success. This marks the commitment of the GAB to encouraging talent and community development.
The GAB considers it a sincere privilege and honor, to recognize such influential individuals in broadcasting within the Columbus community. We eagerly anticipate the continuation of our Roadshow Tour in Gainesville, Georgia on June 26, 2024.
