Every year, the broadcasting industry comes together to celebrate outstanding achievements and excellence in radio at the prestigious Marconi Awards.
The Marconi Awards were created and named in honor of Guglielmo Marconi, who played a pivotal role in the development of radio communication. They were established in 1989 by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and have since become one of the most coveted honors in the radio broadcasting community.
One of the most anticipated categories at the Marconi Awards is the “Major Market Station of the Year,” which honors stations operating in large metropolitan areas. This year, a coveted award nomination went to WALR-FM, based in the vibrant city of Atlanta.
Broadcasting from Atlanta, WWPW-FM, also known as Power 96.1, was nominated for the “CHR Station of the Year” award. The CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) format remains a favorite among the younger audience.
Recognizing the timeless appeal of classic hits, WSRV-FM in Atlanta received a “Classic Hits Station of the Year” nod. This station has been a staple for music lovers who crave the nostalgic tunes of yesteryears, and its commitment to preserving musical treasures from the past has earned it well-deserved recognition.
Embracing the spirit of the South and its rich musical heritage, WKXC-FM in Augusta was honored with a “Country Station of the Year” award nomination. Known for celebrating country music’s authenticity and connecting with listeners on a personal level, WKXC-FM continues to be a vital voice in the country music community.
Not to be overlooked, Spanish-language stations have also made a significant impact on the radio landscape, and WLKQ-FM in Atlanta was recognized as the “Spanish Station of the Year.” With its compelling content, WLKQ-FM has become an essential platform for Spanish-speaking communities.
GAB Board Member and Georgia NAB representative, Nick Martin (Big River Broadcasting Corp.), is also one of five nominees for the “Legendary Radio Manager of the Year.”
The Marconi Awards will broadcast on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. ET.
