First Lady Sandra Deal Named 2016 Georgian of the Year

The Georgia Association of Broadcasters is pleased to announce the selection of First Lady Sandra Deal as its 2016 Georgian of the Year. This honor is given out annually to Georgians who have had a lasting and positive impact on the state’s broadcasting industry and local communities. Past recipients of this honor include former President Jimmy Carter and U.S. Congressman David Scott.

“In addition to First Lady Sandra Deal’s commitment and passion for education and bettering Georgia’s youth, she has proven time and time again to be an advocate for local radio and television broadcasters across the state of Georgia,” said GAB President Bob Houghton. “Beyond her contributions to our industry, she has made an enduring mark on the future of Georgia communities and countless youth across the state through her Read Across Georgia and With A Servant Heart initiatives.”

Due to Mrs. Deal’s busy schedule, she was not able to attend the GABBY Awards but did manage to sit down with GAB Hall of Famer and Broadcasting icon Monica Pearson for an interview on June 6th at the Capitol that aired at the show.
