2008 GAB CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS
Byron Dobbs (2nd from right) is one of three inducted into GAB's Hall of Fame. Shown with Byron is (r to l) Randy Gravley, Byron's business partner; Mike McDougald, 1996 HOF inductee who gave Byron his first job; and Rick Humphrey, 2008 HOF Chairman. Byron and Randy co-own WLJA-FM and WPGY-AM, Ellijay.
Ernie Johnson (center), a 50+ year veteran of the Braves organization, with 35 years as on-air broadcaster, was also inducted into the GAB Hall of Fame. He was accompanied by his wife Lois (l) and introduced by his daughter, Chris (r).
James J. Brown, Jr. , "The Godfather of Soul", was inducted posthumously into our GAB Hall of Fame. It is little known that he was an early pioneer in African-American broadcast radio ownership, beginning with WRDW in Augusta in the early '70's. Deanna Brown Thomas, Brown's daughter, presented her father's history at the luncheon. Pictured with Deanna is Rick Humphrey, HOF Chairman.
Wes Sarginson, retired WXIA-TV News Anchor, received the GABBY for Broadcaster of the Year.
